Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia here you’ll find a rich medieval tapestry of architecture to match the cities zest for life. But do take a trip out of the bustle of Barcelona to Girona. Its impressive Romanesque and Gothic buildings are a must if you want to soak up the history of this region.
Barcelona has the most concentrated collection of Gothic architecture in Europe and Gaudi’s Sagrada Família is a must for every tourist. Catalonian cuisine is equally impressive and there are a host of exceptional restaurants to choose from as well as some luxury hotels.
Whilst you’re there, take a day trip to the Montserrat Royal Basilica. At 1pm, on most week days, you’ll get the chance to hear Europe’s oldest children’s choir and see the famous Virgen Moroneta, the Black Virgin.
